Hollis Taylor Art
For over a decade I have been painting animals, farm animals and beloved pets.
Using your photos, I create oil or watercolor paintings that show amazing detail and soulful expressions. Much of the connection between people and their pets is through their eyes. I like to start there.
"Amazing details in this portrait — it is just like she is there looking at me! Thank-you so much, Hollis!

Even as a child I loved to draw and paint animals. Art class was always my favorite, a place where a few indulgent art teachers allowed me to follow my own direction. When I was ten I won an art competition drawing the “south end of three northbound cows” (cow with swishing tails). Painting animals has been my love since that day.

A little bit about my process… I oil paint with Winsor Newton products. Hand stretching the canvas for the most part, especially the very large ones. The canvases are always gallery wrapped so framing is unnecessary. When I watercolor I use — again Winsor Newton watercolors. Archival 300 weight paper is my preferred support. Daler Rowney are the brushes I like best-however I own a lot of brushes, so if one doesn’t do the job — I just find another one!
Sometimes I paint in the mornings, sometimes late into the night. It is not so much about inspiration-and more about when I gather my forces and images are crowding my mind and heart.
Funny story… a friend of mine upon enjoying some particularly fine chips and dip — said “Is there any more of that dip-when I am not eating it — I am thinking about eating it.” That is a bit how I am with painting — “if I am not painting, I am thinking about painting!”
My new custom designed drinking cup with my artwork on it is seriously my new favorite thing…that is today it is my new favorite thing!
